Insurance
One area of the mortgage package that is too often over looked is protecting the mortgage and the family in the event of a crisis. None of us expect our plans to change and often they are out of our control when they do. By protecting against the unexpected, we can save ourselves additional heartache.
Not all of the products below will be suitable for everyone, but we can tailor make a package to suit your needs, once we have taken into account your concerns, the risks associated with your job or life style and your budget. We do not believe in recommending the same product to everyone; any more than all of our clients would have the same mortgage scheme.
Life Insurance
Protecting your family should the worst happen is common sense. Ensuring that your family has a stable home environment is essential and so we always recommend life insurance with our mortgages. Talk to us, and we can help you to decide which type suits you best:
Level term insurance
Pays a fixed cash sum if you die and is normally used to pay off an interest only mortgage if it is needed. You have to choose the amount of cover, which is usually the mortgage amount, and how long it’s to run for before the insurance starts. Most policies also pay out early if you become terminally ill.
Mortgage protection or decreasing term insurance
provides a cash payment to cover your outstanding mortgage if you die. It is designed for protecting a repayment mortgage as the cash payment reduces in line with your mortgage.
Decreasing term insurance is the cheapest way of protecting a repayment mortgage.
Critical illness insurance
Designed to pay out a cash lump sum, in the event of being diagnosed with a serious illness. The most common illnesses covered are heart attacks, cancers and strokes. The critical illness policy can be bought on its own or added on to your life insurance product.
A serious illness, such as cancer or heart attack, affects 25% of women, that is one-in-four and 20% of men, one-in-five before retirement age.
Critical illness insurance is designed to ease the financial pressures by paying a tax-free lump sum if you become seriously ill or totally disabled. You must normally survive at least one month after becoming critically ill, before the policy will pay out.
Critical illness insurance pays benefits on the diagnosis of certain specified critical illnesses. The range of diseases covered has increased to more than 30, though contracts differ from one company to another.
All policies should cover seven core conditions. These are cancer, coronary artery bypass, heart attack, kidney failure, major organ transplant, multiple sclerosis and stroke. They will often also pay out if a policyholder becomes permanently disabled as a result of injury or illness.
